Michael Young – (sorry Guy has not recorded any minutes for Michael)
Colin Fu - focusing on offline seminar business, web conferencing - challenge is list building - it was suggested he look at ezine/newsletter as a good way and can learn and model on good examples such as:
http://www.kickstartdaily.com
http://www.pluginforprofits.com
Sominar Membere - building community portals http://www.doorwaytodollars.com
http://www.bizquest.com
http://www.losaltos.com
http://www.howtoplanabridalshower.com
Bruce Bird - learnt lesson from computer failure - make sure you can use your backups – he was unable to use the backup device on his alternative computer.
Has uploaded his site http://www.themarketmatrix.com
Richard Taylor - focusing on niche sites for adsense income and reported having built 8 new sites this week with 4 of those in one day. These sites were created using the Andrew Fox tutorial but did warn that more tools were required to follow the process such as Dreamweaver for creating the site templates, Directory Generator for creating all the pages, Article Burner for sucking regular fresh articles to the sites and RSS Equalizer for news feeds. He uses and recommends Keyword Locator for keyword research together with Google’s own keyword tool. He then sorts the combined keyword lists from these tools, eliminating duplicates etc using Keyword Tidy. Blogging Equalizer is used to blog and ping each site to speed up the indexing process.
He will send a list of the site URL’s to the Yahoo group for those interested in this type of site.
Next priority and ‘need’ is traffic and he will use SEOElite for creating links from other relevant sites. And sending articles to various article directories to create back links.
Fiona McCulloch – has been working on her Steven Pierce site http://www.pattycrochet.com
A part of the Steven Pierce technique is to use expired domains which already have a history with the search engines. http://www.expireddomainsleuth.com
Mike Bradley – now realizes that trying to compete with his competitors for traffic to his engagement ring site is going to be prohibitively expensive using Google Adwords – so instead of selling the e-book he is now contemplating giving it away free in return for a sign up – he can then make his money instead by selling the leads to his competitors.
Creating a content site using http://www.mambo.com (spidered every 24 hours??)
Uses Good Keywords for research which is a free tool.
John Hillage – finished the draft of his weight watchers e-book and complemented Fiona for her help in proof reading it for him. Next step to finish the book and create a site to sell it.
Damien Senn – expanding his life - coaching business into offering support to other life coaches through his http://www.coachingpracticebuilder.com programme.
His http://www.senn-sational.com newsletter has now passed the 1,000 subscriber level with 46 new subscribers last month.
With Rob Anderson (at the LA WIS this weekend) Damien has launched http://www.webwednesdays.com as a networking ‘club’ for internet business owners. The first meeting was held recently in Covent Garden and was a great success. It is an evening informal gathering to be held on the first Wed of each month.
Hot Seat 1- Richard Parker Cordock
http://www.millionairemba.com
Main points to consider:
* need benefit in headline e.g. "What you don't learn in MBA school"
* which keywords to get say 60 clicks to split test 2 headlines etc
* audio book, podcasting
* ebook on ebay
* Entrepreneur week
* Article Burner for content and traffic
* get some marketing people (including internet marketing) in the content
* consider JV with other similar product owners – e.g. Jennie Armato
Hot Seat 2 – Trevor Sadowski
http://www.birthdaygifts101.com
Main points to consider:
* translate into American!
* need buy buttons
* free gift; email address for reminder 3 or so weeks before mom's birthday
* blog from moms
* mom of the year contest - gets people coming back
* top 10 favorite gifts in different price ranges (could get data feed)
* capture email before it goes to gifts site
* could use affiliate with more than 1 affiliate
* images in links
* To redirect to your affiliate ID, so readers don't see it:
make a new directory eg http://www.birthdaygifts101.com/gifts/
and create index.html in this directory containing a meta-refresh-tag with
a zero second delay;
see http://www.seologic.com/faq/meta-refresh-tag.php (change the 4 to 0)
Google doesn't follow zero-second redirects.
